RECOMMENDED GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS SECTION 08625 STRUCTURAL – SKYLIGHTS Part 1 General 1.01 Description of Work A. Furnish all materials, labor and related services required to provide skylight(s) as specified on drawings and in this section. B. Work is limited to the skylight system only and includes the following: 1. Structural aluminum framing and compatible flashing. 2. Glass and all necessary glazing gaskets and tapes. 3. Installation shall be by a factory approved installation company. 1.02 Performance Requirements A. Deflection – All load bearing members under any design load combination (including deadload) shall not exceed 1/180 of its clear span. B. Air Infiltration – Complies with testing per ASTM-E283 C. Static water resistance – Complies with testing per ASTM-E331 D. Dynamic water resistance – Complies with testing per AAMA-501.1 E. Wind loading – Withstands wind loads based on ANSI-A58.1/ASCE-7 guidelines and 80 mph wind, exposure C per Uniform Building Code. F. Live/snow loading – Withstands vertical roof loads based on ICBO/BOCA/SBCCI guidelines. Dead load – 10 lbs Live load – 30 lbs psf on horizontal projected areas or as required by the governing building code in which the structure is located, whichever is greater. Wind load – 80 mph psf on vertical projected areas or as required by the governing building code in which the structure is located, whichever is greater. NOTE: MANY SKYLIGHT SHAPES EXPERT HORIZONTAL THRUST ON SUPPORT CURBS OR ADJACENT CONSTRUCTION. CONTACT SUNSHINE ROOMS DURING DESIGN PHASE IF NON-THRUSTING APPLICATION IS REQUIRED. G. Provide a pre-engineered weepage system that collects condensation and directs it to the exterior of the enclosure. H. Glazing performance requirements: Clear glass with SilverCoat E Plus Visible transmittance - 44 or greater Solar Heat Gain Coefficient - .32 Shading coefficient - .38 Relative heat gain - 79 U-Value - .24 1.03 Submittals A. Shop Drawings: Submit five (5) copies of complete shop drawings to the Architect for approval prior to any fabrication. B. Samples 1. 2 ea. 12" structural glazing extrusions. 2. 2 ea. 12' x 12" glass units. 3. 3 ea. framing color samples C. Provide engineering showing the structural integrity of the system, stamped by an engineer licensed in the state of the project. 1.04 Warranty A. Skylight manufacturer shall warrant that the skylight system shall be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of ten (10) years. B. Glass shall be warranted against seal failure for a period of ten (10) years from manufacturer. C. Installer shall guarantee the system will be watertight for a period of five (5) years. Part 2 Products 2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. Sunshine Rooms, Inc., 3333 N. Mead, Wichita, KS 67219 1-800-222-1598 or 316-838-0033 2.02 MATERIALS – A. Structural Framing System 1. Frame: Primary glazing bars shall be 2 1/4" wide and either 3.25", 5.75", or 8.5" deep. Structural engineering shall determine the size of glazing bar per application. 2. Structural Aluminum Members: shall be extruded aluminum 6005-T5 alloy, non-structural members shall be 6063-T5. 3. System shall be thermally broken throughout, including operable windows. Thermal break materials shall be polyurethane. 4. Color Selection: a. All exposed aluminum extrusions shall be finished with electrostatically applied, baked PPG Duracron enamel. Finish to meet AAMA specification 603.8. Choose from the manufacturer's standard colors (bronze, white, or almond). b. Or class II anodized in a color selected by the Architect. c. Or two coat fluoropolymer paint in a color selected by the Architect. 5. System shall incorporate Tear-Duct Weepage Control System. Internal and external moisture diversion channels shall be extruded in the aluminum bars to divert moisture to the outside of unit. Condensation channels shall drain into a sloping sill design. B. Glazing 1. Glass shall consist of insulated glass panels with an overall thickness of 1". 2. Insulated glass units shall be manufactured in accordance to the standard and procedures as outlined by FGMA and IGCC. All glass panels shall carry a manufacture's warranty to the Owner that the factory sealed insulated glass of the product will be free from defects in material for a period of ten (10) years from the date of Substantial Completion. 3. The outboard lite shall consist of: ? 3/16" fully tempered glass panel – clear 4. The inboard lite shall consist of : ? Overhead glazing – Ό" heat strengthened laminated glass 5. All glass shall be treated with multiple low emissivity coatings. Recommend coating to be "Silver Coat E" by Sunshine Rooms. C. Fasteners 1. All fasteners shall be stainless steel. Exposed fasteners are not acceptable. D. Gaskets 1. Gaskets are to be 60 – 70 durometer Santoprene. 2. Glass setting blocks shall be 90 durometer EDPM. E. Sealants 1. Sealants shall be 100% silicone to match the color of the exterior frame. Part 3 –Execution 3.01 Inspection A. Installer shall inspect area to receive skylight to ensure all conditions are in accordance with shop drawings and specifications. B. Verify field dimensions are in accordance with approved shop drawings. C. Inspect material upon arrival at job site for condition and that the quantity of material is in agreement with the packing slip. 3.02 Installation A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and shop drawings. B. Align work plumb, level, and flush with adjacent surfaces. 3.03 Cleaning and Protection A. Glazing should be installed clean. For additional cleaning, follow manufacturer's cleaning instruction. B. The General Contractor shall exercise caution to prevent alkaline substances, paint, abrasives, or other substances or objects from damaging the finish during and after the skylight installation.
